Microsoft has just released a new version of Windows Terminal Preview, and just as expected, it comes with plenty of new features.

One of the most notable is the addition of support for themes, which essentially provides users with more customization options to make the app feel more unique.

However, the new version of Windows Terminal comes with so much more, including tab improvements for Windows users.

“You can modify settings that are applied to the tab with the tab object inside a themes object. The tab object supports background, unfocusedBackground, and showCloseButton properties. background will set the color of the tab background when the tab is active and will always show colors at full opacity. unfocusedBackground sets the color when the tab is inactive and showCloseButton toggles the appearance of the close button on the tab,” Microsoft explains.

The default colors available in Windows Terminal have also been updated. But in terms of looks, one of the most important changes concerns the default theme.

While previously Windows Terminal was following the system theme by default, the app now uses the dark theme when launched for the first time.

The color schemes page is also getting a refresh.

“We found that our color schemes page wasn’t the most intuitive and could use a design refresh. We’ve updated the settings UI color schemes page to improve its styling and user flow. We’ve also added a “Set as default” button, which will apply a color scheme as your default color scheme across all profiles. Profiles that specify a color scheme will use their specified scheme instead of the default,” the company explains.

You can obviously give a try to the new version of Windows Terminal right now, and make sure you send feedback to the company to help the company improve the application in the long term.
