Microsoft has just released Windows Terminal Preview version 1.5, and this time the changelog includes plenty of new features that you’re going to love.

First and foremost, it’s full support for hyperlinks, with the app now automatically detecting links in your commands and turning them into clickable content. The links are obviously handled by your default browser on Windows 10.

In addition, Microsoft has added support for the BEL character, while also adding profile icon emoji support and a tab switcher order setting.

“Have you ever wanted to set your profile icon to an emoji? Well today is your lucky day! You can now use emojis as profile icons throughout your terminal by setting your profile’s "icon" to an emoji. The "useTabSwitcher" setting has received an upgrade! You can now specify "mru" or "inOrder", which will enable the tab switcher with the tabs listed either in most recently used order or in order of their layout in the terminal,” the company explains.

There are several new customization options, including support for borrowing the desktop wallpaper to use as a background image in the Terminal. Then, there are now new launch modes, so you can instruct the pap to launch in focused mode or maximized focus mode, both of which hide the tabs and the title bar.

You can also disable animations in the app if you want a simplified experience in version 1.5

“We added animations for when you create and close panes. If you would like to disable animations throughout the terminal application, you can use the "disableAnimations" global setting. If you have animations disabled at the OS level, you will not see animations inside your terminal unless you set "disableAnimations" to false,” the company explains.
