GPS features now said to be fully functional

There’s not much you can do right now with a Windows phone given that only a few developers still support the platform, but when it comes to experiments, the possibilities are endless.

For example, installing Windows 10 for ARM on the Lumia 950 has been one of the top projects lately in the Windows Phone community, especially because this could technically breathe new life into Microsoft’s latest flagship.

And while doing this is already piece of cake thanks to the software solutions released by the experienced devs out there, more challenging was to get all features up and running on a Windows phone running Windows 10 for ARM.

But as it turns out, the project advances slowly but with a great chance of success. Gustave Monce, who is one of the main contributors to this project, managed to set up GPS support on the Lumia 950 XL powered by Windows 10 for ARM.

No real benefit

Making this happen is something that’s quite an achievement, but for end users, the bigger question concerns the real benefit that such an experiment can provide.

Running Windows 10 for ARM on a Lumia 950 XL doesn’t mean the device can replace your daily driver, but it’s a challenging experiment that more and more devs in the Windows Phone community seem to support.

Microsoft itself doesn’t appear to be too keen on providing any kind of assistance, and the company just wants to see this platform gone for good. 2019 is the last year of support for Windows 10 Mobile, after which Microsoft can leave its mobile platform behind once and for all.

The software giant has recently recommended its users to switch to Android or iPhone because they’re the better mobile choices in the long term, so if you’re still on a Windows phone, you know what you have to do.
