Concept brings translucency in W10M action center

If you’re asking the Windows Phone community, there are many ways to breathe life into Windows 10 Mobile, especially when it comes to features and looks. As far as Microsoft is concerned, however, not everything could fit in perfectly, but suggestions from users keep coming anyway.

One such example is an overhauled action center that features the same translucency effect that has been implemented on the desktop for the taskbar and the Start menu.

A video concept that has recently made it to the /r/windowsphone sub shows that an action center with Aero-like effects would definitely make Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile a more visually appealing platform, despite the fact that, right now, Microsoft’s smartphone operating system is clearly one of the best-looking choices on the market.

On the other hand, while translucency definitely looks good on Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile devices, there’s a reason the feature is not yet there.

The CPU usage problem

Back in 2015, when Microsoft was working on the desktop version of Windows 10, company engineers explained that bringing translucency all across the operating system was a huge challenge, especially when it came to system resources. Such visual effects could become critical CPU hogs, and Microsoft has been trying to get around this for many months before implementing translucency effects in Windows 10.

On Windows phones, the problem is quite similar, so an action center with Aero-like tweaks might not be possible right now without a significant impact on battery life and device performance.

Without a doubt, Microsoft is still looking into ways to implement such options in its platform, especially because Windows 10 “is never done” and the company could add new features at any time. But with Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile losing users at a fast pace, listening to consumer feedback and implementing the highly requested features is becoming a mandatory thing for everyone working for the software giant.
