Everyone’s expecting for Microsoft to push the go-ahead button for Windows 10 Mobile these days and allow those owning Windows Phone devices to upgrade them to the new OS, as well.

In the meantime, however, Windows Phone’s market share is declining, according to data provided by Kantar, which is pretty odd given the push for Windows 10 Mobile these days.

As you can see in the screenshot here, Windows Phone’s share dropped in almost every single top market in the world for the three-month period ending October 2015, while both Android and iOS managed to improve during this whole time.

Market share figures

In Germany, for example, Windows Phone had the exact same share as in the same period of the previous year, staying untouched at 7.2 percent. In the United Kingdom, on the other hand, Windows Phone dropped from 8.5 percent to 8.2 percent, while in Italy, which was previously Microsoft’s top European market, it declined from 13.8 percent to 11.3 percent, down 2.5 percent.

The same happened in Spain too, where Windows Phone lost 1.8 percent of the market share to reach 2.7 percent, but also in the United States where it’s now powering only 2.7 percent of the smartphones in the country, down from 3.7 percent in the three-month period ending October 2014.

The only country where Windows Phone actually improved its performance was China, where it scored an increase of 1.9 percent, from 0.5 to 2.4 percent.

These figures, however, are expected to go back up in the next round of statistics thanks to the arrival of Windows 10 Mobile, but also new phones, such as the Lumia 950, 950 XL, and 550. More people are expected to give Windows a chance on their smartphones, but the biggest challenge will definitely be to convince them to stay onboard and not go back to Android or iOS.
