Microsoft pushing back the release of new mobile device

The Surface Phone is without a doubt the most anticipated product in the Windows phone community, especially as Microsoft’s mobile platform is heading towards its demise.

But while the Surface Phone would never come to be as a smartphone per se, Microsoft is believed to be working on a new mobile device that could still feature phone capabilities.

Codenamed Andromeda, this project would actually invent a completely new product category, using a dual-screen configuration and hinges to power multiple form factors depending on the orientation of the displays.

Even though this is an exciting product that Windows phone users consider to be the only way to remain part of Microsoft’s mobile ecosystem, recent reports have indicated that the software giant not only that pushed back the public release, but also that it could be considering giving up on it entirely.

This is due to the software side of the project which apparently isn’t ready for the fall of 2018 release, as originally planned, and is now delayed to spring 2019.

The petition

With Microsoft also taking into consideration abandoning the device entirely, Windows phone enthusiasts have decided to launch a petition to help save Andromeda, trying to show the Redmond-based firm that demand for such a product does exist.

“I'm doing this petition to see how many people would buy this phone if Microsoft would release it. Money is power and if a lot of people want a Surface phone like the ones in the leaks then they will be forced into action as everyone knows Microsoft wouldn't be able to give a reason on why not to do it to there investors, as its too much of a money opportunity to miss,” petition starter Zachary Hinski wrote.

The petition is still in its early days, so not a lot of Windows phone users have signed it, but it’ll be interesting to see how many supporters it’ll actually reach given the excitement around this new Surface mobile device.
