Bad news for Windows Phone users and their favorite platform, as the latest statistics provided by Kantar show that Microsoft’s mobile operating system has continued its decline in the three-month period ending March 16.

And what’s worse, the drop experienced by Windows Phone took place in almost every single big market, starting with the United States and ending with Europe, where the platform has always been very well received.

Biggest drop in Italy

The biggest drop was recorded in the countries where Windows Phone was previously the most successful. Windows Phone’s market share dropped in France from 14.1 percent in 2015 to no less than 5 percent this year, a drop of 9.1 percent in just 12 months. Similar performance was experienced in Italy too, where it collapsed from 14.4 percent to 6.3 percent, this time a decline of 8.1 percentage points.

Windows Phone has also lost market share in Germany, down 3.8 percent to 4.9 percent, and in the United Kingdom, a drop of 2.0 percent to 6.2 percent. Overall, Windows Phone lost 5 percentage points in the EU5 region, going down from 9.9 percent in 2015 to 4.9 percent this year.

As far as the United States is concerned, it’s no secret that Windows Phone has never been widely adopted here, but even so, its numbers keep going down these days. According to Kantar, Windows Phone dropped from 4.3 percent to 2.7 percent in the United States, a difference of 1.6 percent in just 12 months.

Things aren’t going very well in China either, where Windows Phone has reached 0.8 percent, while in Australia it lost 3.6 percent of its market share to settle at 3.7 percent.

The one and only market where Windows Phone actually improved is Japan, but the difference is so small that you can really forget about it. The platform grew in the country from 0.4 percent to 0.5 percent in the last 12 months.
