Someone at Microsoft pressed the post button too fast

If you’re a Microsoft watcher, you probably know the official Windows account is pretty active on the social network, with new posts going live regularly for its more than 6.9 million followers.

A few days ago, however, someone who’s part of the team handling the Windows account on Twitter pressed the post button without first doing their homework.

This is because they accidentally published a photo showing an iMac instead of what was most likely supposed to be a Windows computer, especially because the provided link included information on how to keep your PC safe.

“Spring Cleaning? Check out these tips on how to clean and run your device safely and smoothly from Microsoft’s Carmen Zlateff,” the tweet read.

Most likely, the person responsible for the blunder failed to tell apart the Surface Studio and the iMac, two all-in-one devices which in many ways are pretty similar.

Not the first blunder of its kind

It goes without saying the WWW noticed the mistake pretty fast, and many users reacted in responses to the tweet in a matter of seconds. While the original post remained live for a few hours, the Windows team eventually decided to remove it completely, without even publishing it back with the right image. Of course, it remains available for eternity online, including on the Internet archive.

Blunders like this happen every once in a while, and in some cases, companies out there are caught using products developed by competition. For example, Samsung has recently praised a foldable built by a rival, while Apple was caught back in 2018 posting on Twitter from an Android device.

Previously, Samsung was involved in a similar mishap, as the South Koreans took to Twitter to interact with their followers using an iPhone.
