Concept envisions a modern version of Windows 7

Windows 7 no longer receives security updates, so the 2009 operating system is fully unsupported now. Users are therefore recommended to make the switch to Windows 10 and thus continue getting patches that would help keep the data protected.

But while Windows 7 is a dead platform now, it’s not a secret that many people just don’t want to give up on it, and it’s all because they don’t agree with the modern direction that Windows 10 has embraced.

For many, Windows 7 is the last Windows operating system that’s optimized for the desktop, and the addition of features like a Microsoft Store, Cortana, and modern apps make the classic Windows experience too cluttered.

A concept that was published this week envisions a mix of old and new, imagining what a Windows 7 version would look like with new-generation features.

So essentially, what we have here looks more like a modern Windows 7 that borrows a few ideas for Windows 10 but also comes with a bunch of features of its own.

Gadgets on the desktop

The Aero styling is still available, and so is the Start menu that everybody still seems to love, but at the same time, this concept also envisions an evolution of File Explorer that features tabs. At one point, Microsoft wanted to add tabs to Windows 10 with a feature called Sets, but the whole experience was built on the legacy version of Edge, so the plan has since been abandoned.

One particular feature that looks great is support for gadgets on the desktop, and some have previously suggested that Microsoft could achieve similar functionality by allowing us to pin live tiles to the desktop.

All in all, this is a great concept for those who still want Windows 7 in a modern world, but right now, it’s pretty clear that Microsoft is all about Windows 10 right now.
