The new update could go live in about a month

We’ve known for a while that a new Windows 11 feature update was on its way, but so far, Microsoft has remained completely tight-lipped on the ETA.

The company did confirm that build 22621 was the one picked as the RTM build, but on the other hand, the launch date for production devices has so far remained secret.

According to new reports, Windows 11 version 22H2, also known as Sun Valley 2, could launch on September 20 for the first wave of devices. It will go like in Windows Update, most likely for seekers, with Microsoft to accelerate the rollout as it gets more feedback on the update.

Update to roll out in stages

Very important to know is that Microsoft won’t release the new feature update for all users on day one. This is because the company will use the phased rollout that was employed for previous Windows updates as well, as it allows the detection of possible problems in an early phase. If this happens, the company can enable update blocks for certain devices, therefore limiting the damage a certain glitch can cause.

“By starting with machines which we believe will have the best update experience, we are able to get focused feedback on application compatibility and how Windows works with the rich ecosystem of available peripherals like Bluetooth devices or cameras,” Microsoft originally said when it first introduced the phased rollout approach.

“Additionally, we closely monitor feedback from fans and early adopters, through programs like Windows Insiders and Windows Insider for Business, in addition to feedback from our OEM device partners, and customers like you! This helps us determine when to accelerate the release to additional devices.”

At this point, however, the September 20 date isn’t yet confirmed, so everybody should take it with a pinch of salt for now.
