The built-in Chat option available in Windows 11 and powered by Microsoft Team will soon get a major update, as the Redmond-based software giant is working on a new video calling experience.

The company announced that update earlier this week, explaining that users will be provided with all kinds of new goodies, including a call link that can be shared with others to quickly begin a video call.

“When you open Chat from the taskbar, the focus will be on you with a preview of your own video, and the various ways you can connect with your people. It is now easier than ever to immediately start a video call with those who are using Microsoft Teams for personal use. For those who are not on Teams, not a problem- you can easily share a call link with anyone via SMS or email and get the conversation going directly within Chat,” Microsoft said.

The feature will start rolling out broadly in the coming months

Worth knowing, however, is that the new video calling experience is still a work in progress, and the parent company says that the first users should get it in the coming months.

However, worth knowing is that the very first Windows insiders are getting access to a sneak preview release right now, but of course, the availability will increase as Microsoft receives more feedback and makes sure everything is working as expected.

“This experience will become more broadly available in the coming months, but a small subset of users will have started seeing the experience as part of a sneak preview release. See if you fall into this category by launching Chat from the taskbar. If you do, we’d love to hear your feedback, which is available directly from within the product,” Microsoft says.
