Windows 11 will launch next month, and part of the refresh will also be a new Photos app that comes not necessarily with new capabilities but with a major facelift in the first place.

Panos Panay has shared a video showcasing the new Photos app on Windows 11 in a video on Twitter, confirming that it’s going to launch shortly for Windows insiders.

Most likely, the new Photos app will be included in the new Windows 11 build shipping either this week or the next one, as Microsoft wants to collect enough feedback to make sure everything works as expected before the operating system launches on October 5.

As you could easily guess, the new Photos app sports rounded corners and everything else to align with the rest of the operating system, and while the video doesn’t show a dark mode, there’s a chance it’ll be included as well.

The Windows 11 rollout will take place in stages

Windows 11 will launch next month, with computers out there to receive it in stages, but the Photos app is expected to be available on day one for devices getting the operating system update.

“The free upgrade to Windows 11 starts on October 5 and will be phased and measured with a focus on quality. Following the tremendous learnings from Windows 10, we want to make sure we’re providing you with the best possible experience,” Microsoft explained in an announcement recently.

“That means new eligible devices will be offered the upgrade first. The upgrade will then roll out over time to in-market devices based on intelligence models that consider hardware eligibility, reliability metrics, age of device and other factors that impact the upgrade experience. We expect all eligible devices to be offered the free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022.
