Some users are stuck in the Dev channel due to bug

Microsoft itself is recommending users to move from the Dev to the Beta channel in the Insider program in order to stick with more stable Windows 11 builds, but on the other hand, the switch appears to be much harder due to a bug disabling the option.

More specifically, HTNovo reports that making the switch from the Dev channel to Beta is no longer possible for some users, simply because the Beta ring is greyed out in the Settings screen.

And while the whole thing is still possible with a registry hack, not everybody might figure out how to do it, so Microsoft should definitely look into this and ship a patch to bring things back to normal.

Microsoft: Dev builds could become less stable

The Redmond-based software giant plans to start rolling out new Dev builds to Windows insiders, and the company itself has warned that some experimental improvements it would include in these releases might not be exactly the most stable.

“Based on our data, you have a PC that is currently configured for flighting Windows 11 Insider Preview Builds in the Dev Channel,” the company said. “We will soon be flighting early development builds in the Dev channel. These builds may be less stable and won’t align with the version of Windows 11 expected to be available to the general public later this year.”

“If you would like to experience more reliable Windows 11 Insider Preview builds tied to the upcoming release, please move your device to the Beta Channel,” Microsoft added.

Windows 11 is projected to launch in October, so the final build should be ready in approximately two months. As always, insiders will be the first to get their hands on it, just to make sure everything is working correctly before the global rollout starts.
