The Settings app keeps evolving in the operating system

It’s no longer a secret that Microsoft is working around the clock on killing off the classic Control Panel in Windows 11, and as part of this effort, the company is trying to make the experience with the new Settings app feel and work as modern as possible.

The Settings app is therefore getting updates every once in a while, and most recently, it received animated icons that make the experience feel a bit more dynamic.

For the time being, however, the animated icons are only displayed in the navigation bar, so it remains to be seen if the same treatment is supposed to make its way to all menus in the Settings app.

“We are beginning to roll out animated icons and illustrations in the Settings app. With the animated icons in the navigation bar, we continue growing our motion design principles to transform these familiar interactions from something purely functional to something that is also delightful,” Microsoft announced in the changelog of the most recent Windows 11 preview build.

More changes in the latest Windows 11 preview build

The Redmond-based software giant also announced additional input improvements in the latest preview build.

“We are making the small tweak that began rolling out with Build 25179 to improve the key repeat rate for the traditional touch keyboard layout, as well as the default touch keyboard layout, so it feels more responsive available to all Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. Now it has the rate of 20 keys per second (for example, when holding down the delete key),” the company says.

At this point, these latest improvements don’t yet have a release date, as the changes that Microsoft is testing in the Windows Insider program are only supposed to be experiments that may or may not make their way to production devices.
