The new Windows Media Player that launched last year on Windows 11 is now making its way to Windows 10 as well.

A report from the German site DeskModder reveals that the modern Windows Media Player version is available on the Microsoft Store for Windows 10 devices as well, though right now, the availability appears to be quite limited.

I can’t see the new Windows Media Player in the Microsoft Store just yet on my Windows 10 devices, so there’s a chance that the software giant is gradually improving the availability across the world for now. It shouldn’t take too long, however, before the Microsoft Store becomes available for all users running Windows 10.

The new Windows Media Player

Launched last year, the new Windows Media Player completely transforms the multimedia experience on Windows 11 devices, coming with a modern UI that aligns with the rest of the operating system.

On Windows 11, the new Windows Media Player replaced the Groove Music app, an idea that never gained enough traction to become the hit that Microsoft hoped it would become. Its adoption remained quite limited, so the new Media Player is now supposed to provide users with a more modern experience that feels at home on Windows 11.

“At the heart of Media Player is a full-featured music library that allows you to quickly browse and play music, as well as create and manage playlists. If your music collection is in Groove Music today, your library and playlists will automatically migrate to this new experience. The update to the new Media Player will replace the Groove Music app. The dedicated playback view features album art and rich artist imagery; these will appear in the full screen and mini player experiences as well,” Microsoft said when it announced the new Media Player experience.
