Microsoft bringing native RGB lighting control to Windows

Microsoft is working on several big new features for Windows 11, such as the tab support in Notepad, and a recent discovery provides us with an early look at another important addition that will soon be a part of the operating system’s native feature arsenal.

Microsoft is adding RGB lighting controls in Windows, therefore allowing users to control the lights of their accessories, such as keyboards, without the need for third-party software.

If you’ve been using Razer Synapse to control your Chroma settings, you probably know what I mean. Thanks to this new feature, Windows 11 users would no longer have to install any other software, pretty much because all the settings would be there bundled with the operating system.

Twitter user Albacore has discovered an early implementation of this feature in Windows 11 preview builds, with Microsoft apparently planning to offer an experience that’s as advanced as possible. Users will be allowed to adjust everything from brightness and lighting effects to speed and colors.

The new customization options will be located under a new Lighting section in the Settings app.

For the time being, there’s no ETA as to when the new options could go live, but without a doubt, it’s all just a matter of time until they show up in the Windows Insider program.

Microsoft is already working on several Moment updates that could go live this year, but the biggest release of 2023 is the 23H2 feature update. Scheduled to launch at some point in the second half of this year, most likely in September or October, this update will be specifically focused on new features and improvements, whereas the other Moment updates will try to further polish the experience with the OS using smaller refinements.
