It may not be available at launch though

Microsoft is getting ready to launch Windows 11, but this doesn’t necessarily mean the operating system is complete and no new features would be added at a later time.

This appears to be the case of a new media player, which has recently been spotted during a Windows Insider podcast, with a report from WL also including a screenshot revealing the app in all its glory.

At this point, the interface is rather simple, mostly because the media player itself is believed to be in its early days. At the same time, it can very well be just a facelift for the Movies and TV app already bundled with Windows 10, so we’d better wait for Microsoft to share all details.

This is expected to happen rather sooner than later, especially as the rollout of Windows 11 is projected to start next week. Of course, the media player will first go live for insiders before making its way to the stable builds of the OS.

Windows 11 launching next week

The rollout of Windows 11 will kick off next week, but this doesn’t necessarily mean everybody will get it on day one. The company will use a phased rollout, and it plans to complete the release of the operating system by the summer of 2022.

“The free upgrade to Windows 11 starts on October 5 and will be phased and measured with a focus on quality. Following the tremendous learnings from Windows 10, we want to make sure we’re providing you with the best possible experience. That means new eligible devices will be offered the upgrade first. The upgrade will then roll out over time to in-market devices based on intelligence models that consider hardware eligibility, reliability metrics, age of device and other factors that impact the upgrade experience,” Microsoft says.

If your device is eligible for Windows 11, the new OS should show up on Windows Update just like any other update.
