Windows 11 is an operating system built for everybody, so it’s not only a productivity platform but also a piece of software supposed to let you play the latest game with the newest technology.

This is the reason Windows 11 is rapidly increasing its market share on Steam, with the latest Valve numbers revealing a massive growth last month for this operating system.

The 64-bit version of Windows 10 has dropped 3.92 percent in January, though it continues to be the most popular operating system on Steam with a share of 77.82 percent.

Windows 11, however, is rapidly gaining share. Last month, it jumped 3.41 percent to reach no less than 13.56 percent, therefore becoming the runner-up in the charts. Windows 7 64-bit remains a popular choice with 3.73 percent share, and more surprisingly, a 0.49 percent increase.

macOS is the most popular non-Windows gaming operating system on Steam with 2.77 percent, while Linux is far behind with 1.06 percent.

Windows 11 updates

Microsoft is already preparing the very first major update for Windows 11. The release is projected to happen this month, and it will include a public preview of Android apps on Windows 11.

At the same time, the Redmond-based software giant also promised other refinements, including some goodies aimed at the taskbar.

“Next month we’re bringing new experiences to Windows that include a public preview of how you can use Android apps on Windows 11 through the Microsoft Store and our partnerships with Amazon and Intel, taskbar improvements with call mute and unmute, easier window sharing and bringing weather to the taskbar, plus the introduction of two new redesigned apps, Notepad and Media Player,” Microsoft announced last month.

At this point, there’s no specific ETA as to when the public rollout is supposed to start.
