The Start menu gets more improvements and known issues

The Start menu has received a massive overhaul in Windows 11, and since Microsoft rolled out the new operating system last year, it’s been working around the clock on further polishing the experience with this essential feature.

Windows 11 build 22567 continues the work on this front, with Microsoft explaining that it has also included a new small animation to indicate you can create a folder when hovering one pinned app icon over another.

Because yes, the Start menu now allows the creation of icon folders, though this is currently available only for users enrolled in the Windows Insider program.

At the same time, this new build also comes with a series of additional fixes specifically aimed at the Start menu.

“Fixed an issue affecting the reliability of the Start menu opening. Fixed an issue where dragging a pinned app icon between pages of pinned apps wasn’t working. Addressed an alignment issue with the More button,” the company explains.

Just one related known issue

As far as the known issues are concerned, there are none specifically targeting the Start menu, but on the other hand, Windows 11 build 22567 comes with a glitch that’s more or less related.

The Redmond-based software giant explains that right-clicking the Start menu could crash explorer.exe, so this is why users need to stick with the shortcut to launch the Task Manager for now.

“If you right click on the Start icon in this build or press WIN + X, explorer.exe will likely crash. Please use CTRL + Shift + Esc for the time being if you use this menu to launch Task Manager,” the company says.

All these changes are currently exclusive to insiders, but Microsoft will obviously roll out all improvements to production devices in a future OS update.
