Microsoft will recommend Windows 11 on eligible devices

Both Windows 10 version 21H2 and Windows 11 are projected to go live in the coming months, but on the other hand, the latter would only be available for certain eligible computers.

In other words, while Windows 10 version 21H2 will be available for almost everyone already running Windows 10, Windows 11 will only be offered to certain hardware configurations, including PCs with eighth-gen processors and newer.

As per a report from WL, Microsoft will use Windows 10 version 21H2 to promote Windows 11, and computers that are eligible for the new operating system would see a special message in Windows Update to let them know they can perform the upgrade.

“This PC can run Windows 11,” the message displayed in Windows 11 reads.

“Great news – your PC meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11. Specific timing for when it will be offered can vary as we get it ready for you. Some Windows 10 features aren’t available in Windows 11. Certain apps and features may have additional requirements.”

Windows 11 coming in October

Microsoft has already confirmed Windows 11 is coming later this year, and it’s believed the OS would be signed off as soon as the next month, while the public rollout would start in October.

“Windows 11 will be available through a free upgrade for eligible Windows 10 PCs and on new PCs beginning this holiday,” Microsoft originally announced. “We’re also working with our retail partners to make sure Windows 10 PCs you buy today are ready for the upgrade to Windows 11. The free upgrade will begin to roll out to eligible Windows 10 PCs this holiday and continuing into 2022.”

Windows 11 is already available for testing as part of the Dev and Beta channels in the Windows Insider program.
