Microsoft has released the very first Windows 10 version 20H2 to the Beta channel, ahead of the production rollout that is expected to take place in the fall.

Windows 10 version 20H2 is the next feature update for Windows 10, albeit as compared to the May 2020 Update, this one is more likely to be just a small pack of improvements.

More specifically, Windows 10 version 20H2 is expected to follow in the footsteps of Windows 10 November 2019 Update, or version 1909, which was often described as a little bit more than a service pack.

So version 20H2 will focus mostly on under the hood refinements and less on new features, and this will land on your device as part of an enablement package.

Commercial validation

More recently, Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 version 20H2 was available for commercial pre-release validation.

“If you manage updates directly from Windows Update, or have devices enrolled in the Beta Channel (previously the Slow ring) or the Release Preview Channel for validation purposes, you don’t need to take any action. Windows 10, version 20H2 will be automatically deployed to all commercial devices in the Beta and Release Preview Channels and those who have devices on Windows 10, version 2004 will get to experience the remarkably fast update that comes with moving from version 2004 to version 20H2 via an enablement package,” Microsoft explains.

According to the typical release schedule, Windows 10 version 20H2 is projected to be finalized in September, while the public rollout to production devices should kick off in October or in November.

This release will take place in stages, as Microsoft will use the same approach as before to be able to determine bugs in the early phases and prevent them from hitting more devices with the same configuration.
