14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has released another refined version of Windows 10 cumulative update KB4469342 for version 1809 (October 2018 Update), and just like before, only insiders in the Release Preview ring are getting it.
This is the third update that KB4469342 receives after two other releases in November, and by the looks of things, we’re nearing the moment when Microsoft pushes it to public users.
We’re expecting this to happen next week on December 11 when Microsoft begins this month’s Patch Tuesday cycle. Both security and non-security improvements would be included, and the next cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1809 will likely bring fixes for several issues that have already been acknowledged by Microsoft.
While no specifics are available on what’s new in this third version of cumulative update KB4469342, it increases the OS build number to 17763.168, up from 17763.167 in the previous release. The original version of this cumulative update bumped the OS build number to 17763.165.
Public rollout beginning next week
Given the small version bump, there’s a chance that Microsoft has included only minor refinements, but we’ll find out more later this week when the company is expected to publicly announce the cumulative update.
Microsoft rolled out new cumulative updates for previous versions of Windows 10 in late November. The October 2018 Update, on the other hand, is only getting improvements as part of the Windows Insider program, as Microsoft wants to make sure that all fixes are working as expected and no further issues are being caused after installation.
Clearly, the company is embracing a more cautious approach now after the version 1809 fiasco. Windows 10 October 2018 Update was originally shipped in early October but got pulled only a few days later due to an issue causing the deletion of user files. The update was finally re-released in November, and since then, Microsoft acknowledged several bugs hitting systems worldwide.
