Microsoft is getting ready to release the Windows 10 Creators Update to users across the world, and in the meantime, adoption of the Anniversary Update version is going strong, with more than 91 percent of the PCs running it right now, according to a new set of statistics.
This means that 9 out of 10 Windows 10 PCs are already on the Anniversary Update (version 1607), which does nothing more than show that Microsoft users have performed the update to the latest version of the operating system in the first months of availability.
While Windows 10 version 1607 leads the charts with 91.2 percent, Windows 10 version 1511 is the runner-up with 6 percent, and the original version is still running on just 2 percent of the PCs. 0.9 percent of the systems are already on preview builds of the Creators Update.
Fast adoption after 3 months
The evolution of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update shows that adoption started slowly in the first months of availability, but after three months on the market, the install base jumped from approximately 35 percent to nearly 80 percent in just 30 days.
“As you can see, Anniversary Update started slowly and was installed on less than 35 percent of PCs two months in. But then floodgates opened and it jumped to close to 80 percent in a month,” AdDuplex says in the statistics published today.
The Windows 10 Creators Update is projected to launch next month, possibly on April 11, and just like it happened in the case of the Anniversary Update, the rollout will take place in stages.
PCs will be the first to get it starting April 11, while smartphones are projected to receive it at a later time, with Microsoft yet to provide any specifics on its planned rollout. At this point, development of the Creators Update is close to reaching the final stages as part of the Windows Insider program.
