Skype for Windows 10 receives new update in Windows Store

Microsoft has released a new update for the Windows 10 version of Skype, but as compared to what users expected, the sharing feature is still missing, even though it’s one of the highly-requested options for the Store client.

This new update comes with Messaging options to search chats, send SMS, and use the app with keyboard shortcuts, but also with group video calling that now features a redesigned view to “bring everyone even closer together.” The calling feature now supports switching microphones and cameras during a call.

And last but not least, there are improvements for managing contacts, with Microsoft considering this to be the biggest highlight of the new version.

“We’ve simplified the way your contacts on Skype connect with the People app on your device. Skype will display the number of mutual contacts you share, making it easier to find the right people. You can always opt out of this setting by updating your profile for People Search and Suggestions,” Microsoft says.

No longer a preview, but still not feature complete

Skype is no longer in preview stage, but this still doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s feature complete. Microsoft originally promised to bring the same functionality across all versions of Skype, no matter if they are designed for Windows or non-Windows platforms, but for the moment, it just seems that this thing requires more time to implement.

For example, support for sharing is not yet implemented in the Windows 10 version of Skype, even though it’s clearly a feature that needs to be there. This makes it impossible for users to share files, documents, and photos on Skype, and this is currently one of the common things that most people do with their contacts, besides chatting.

If you want to get the new version of Skype, simply launch the Store and look in the Downloads and updates section. If the update is not yet available, just wait a little bit longer, as it takes a while to show up for everyone across the world.
