Microsoft has rolled out a new set of improvements for the Windows 10 version of Skype, introducing a bunch of additional features based on the feedback it received lately from insiders.

One of them is support for minimizing Skype for Windows 10 to the system tray. The icon will then be displayed in the tray and show a badge if you have any unread messages in the application.

“We've heard you loud and clear! System Tray is now available on our latest Skype for Windows 10 Insider build. The System Tray icon will be displayed whenever Skype is running and will show a badge for an unread messages,” Microsoft said.

The version that adds this new feature is 8.36.76.38, and it can be downloaded on insider devices.

Other recent improvements for Skype

A previous update that was launched earlier this month also introduced a new feature for presence updates. The Skype client, this time on all platforms and not just for Windows 10 users, gets further presence options with version 8.36.76.26, again available for insiders for the time being.

“In this Insider build we have made some updates to your presence on Skype! We have brought back the highly requested Away state and added a new state, Recently Active! Now, at a quick glance, you can see if your contact is online or not. If the contact is Offline you will not see a presence indicator on their avatar,” Microsoft explains.

Microsoft says it’s also working on a series of other updates in this regard, including options to let you customize for how long you want to be marked as Recently Active. Additionally, Microsoft says it’ll correct the behavior in the Windows 10 app and which marks Skype users as inactive when the app is running but they are using a different application with the mouse or keyboard.
