14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 Threshold 2 is scheduled to launch next week, but Microsoft was expected to finalize work on this particular update sometime this week, before officially releasing it to everyone on November 10.
But according to a report coming from China (via Neowin), Microsoft has already completed work on Windows 10 Threshold 2, which is also named November Update, earlier today, so the company can now start working on the delivery system to make sure that the process runs smoothly for all users.
Threshold 2 will be shipped just like any other cumulative update, so it should show up in Windows Update for seamless deployment. Contrary to new Windows 10 builds that re-install the operating system from scratch, Threshold 2 will be an update that will require a reboot, but everything would be performed faster without any changes to apps or files.
Specifically aimed at RTM users
Another thing that’s worth taking into account is the fact that Windows 10 Threshold 2 will be specifically aimed at RTM users, so if you’re an insider already running preview builds, you might not find too many exciting features in this particular release.
Windows 10 RTM (build 10240) users will be allowed to upgrade directly to Threshold 2, getting all the improvements that insiders have been testing in the last few months. Additionally, those who will move to Windows 10 after the release of Threshold 2 will get directly to this version, so the transition won’t be made first to RTM and then to this release.
Microsoft is working to make the jump faster and easier for everyone, so new PCs that will be sold with Windows 10 pre-installed should also come with Threshold 2 as well.
Keep in mind that Microsoft hasn’t yet confirmed the release date of Threshold 2, but given the fact that next week the company “celebrates” Patch Tuesday, it’s pretty much the best moment to introduce such a significant update for Windows 10 computers.
