Microsoft expands the insider program to hardware

Microsoft has been planning to expand the Windows Insider program beyond software for a while, and it looks like the company is finally making the first step in this direction these days.

According to a report by Windows Central, the company has started sending out invites to a number of insiders in order to let them try out Continuum and provide feedback on their experience.

But not all insiders are getting the opportunity to test Continuum. It appears that Microsoft is sending this invite only to the most active members of the Windows Insider program, so in case you’ve submitted feedback that helped improve Windows 10 or Windows 10 Mobile, then your name could be on the list.

But here’s the better part. It appears that Microsoft is also giving away Continuum hardware, as in the Display Dock, that’s needed to try out the feature. It’s not clear if any other goodies are also provided, but Continuum works only with Lumia 950 and 950 XL, so it could be a real treat to see insiders getting a free phone, too.

And yet, seeing Microsoft trying to convince its most active testers to give a spin to Continuum is not that surprising, especially because the company is pushing really hard to make this feature successful.

Continuum allows a Windows 10 Mobile phone to double as a PC with a special Display Dock, which includes USB ports and external display support. This way, you can easily plug in a monitor or a projector, connect your mouse and keyboard and work on the screen straight on your phone, just like you’d normally do on a desktop computer.

Microsoft is most likely looking into ways to improve Continuum in the future, and what better way to do it than with help from those who contributed to the development of Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile?
