14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft says that Windows 10 adoption is going very well, and the new operating system has already achieved better figures than Windows 7 in the first months on the market, but these stats are only available for the consumer market.
As far as enterprises are concerned, very little is known, but a survey conducted by Adaptiva provides us with an early look at how Windows 10 performs on this side of the business.
Better than Windows 7 in the enterprise
Out of the 100 IT professionals participating in this survey, 64 percent of them have revealed that they plan to install Windows 10 on their devices sometime this year. 40 percent of those who piloted Windows 10 have already installed the new operating system on half or even more of their systems, the study shows.
“The survey results underscore the surge in Windows 10 interest we are seeing from enterprises as well as the concerns they have about keeping pace with the frequent updates,” said Jim Souders, chief operating officer at Adaptiva.
“The new Microsoft ConfigMgr and Windows 10 releases are ushering in a need for a more automated, intelligent approach to systems management that reduces the time and complexity necessary to keep software and systems secure and up to date.”
Statistics show that Windows 10 is currently running on some 10 percent of PCs across the world, but Microsoft’s banking on the enterprise sector to boost adoption in 2016. The company has a goal of bringing Windows 10 on 1 billion devices by 2017, and with help from enterprises, this milestone can indeed be achieved, the company hopes.
Windows 10 is offered free of charge to consumers running Windows 7 and 8.1, but enterprises still have to pay for a license to deploy the new OS. Time will tell if Windows 10 can succeed in this market, but with interest growing at such a fast pace, Microsoft expects the majority of enterprises to jump on the upgrade bandwagon as soon as possible.
