New preview build released to fast ring users

Microsoft has just rolled out a new Windows 10 Redstone preview build for insiders enrolled in the fast ring, introducing one important feature for Edge browser users.

First and foremost, Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has warned that gamers or users of accessibility software should have a look at the known issues list. Some of the entries there concern the gaming experience you could get on this build (you can see the full list of known issues in the box after the jump).

Specifically, Redmond says that some PC games will crash and the company even provides a list of titles that might not work as expected after installing this build.

“Some PC games will crash switching from windowed mode to full screen, upon game resolution change, or upon launch due to a bug in Windows graphics stack. We have observed this with The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed, and Metal Gear Solid V but it may occur with other titles as well,” Aul says.

Also, applications such as Magnifier or third-party accessibility tools could crash as well, and Microsoft stresses that the issue will be fully fixed in the next build. Additionally, during the update process to this build, some PCs could get an error that their Wi-Fi card is not compatible with Windows 10. The workaround is to install the newest drivers available for your card.

One new feature

After the previous builds were all about bug fixes and performance improvements, Microsoft has finally included a new feature in this release. Edge browser has received a history menu, so if you right-click the back and forward buttons in Edge, you can quickly access the recently visited websites in the current tab.

Microsoft says this is one of the most requested features so far in the Feedback app (we think the ad blocker and extension support are actually the most requested features, but it’s still a good thing that new options are being added).

Keep in mind that this build is only available for fast ring users, and there’s no word yet on whether or not there is a plan to release it to the slow track.
