Microsoft pulled it, but the build is still up for grabs

Microsoft was expected to release a new Windows 10 build sometime this week, but due to a bug that prevented it from updating to the next release, the company decided to hold it back for a few more days.

And yet, it appears that Windows 10 build 15002, which is exactly the one that was supposed to be shipped to insiders but canceled at the very last minute, is now up for grabs through unofficial channels.

Before anything, here’s something that you must have in mind: installing builds that are not directly released by Microsoft (even though the .WIM file in this case was posted by the company itself on its servers) is not recommended unless you know exactly what you are doing.

This build has been canceled because of bugs, and there’s a good chance that some other issues might be in there as well, so extra caution is recommended should you proceed with the install.

Similar to build 14997

Twitter user @h0x0d was the one who discovered build 15002 on Microsoft servers, and the company moved super-fast to remove the download links. And yet, some people have already managed to grab the WIM file and make it available for download elsewhere, so you can still give a try if you know where to look.

As usual, we can’t provide you with any download links, but expect build 15002 to become more widely available in the coming hours as more people get it.

As far as the new features that are expected to be part of this release are concerned, build 15002 is very likely to be similar to 14997, which leaked in late December and came with major improvements, such as an improved Settings app, new Edge features, and a Blue Light filter. All of these are likely to be included in build 15002, but also in the upcoming Insider release due next week.

For the moment, just keep in mind that Microsoft didn’t release this build for a good reason, so if you still decide to give it a try, at least do it in a virtual machine to minimize the risks of experiencing major bugs.
