Microsoft has released an update for the Skype UWP app for insiders running Windows 10 preview builds on PCs, revealing that a mobile version is coming as well.

Starting with this update, the Skype UWP version allows users to create and send group messages, but also to make group audio and video calls. At the same time, they can view up to four video images at once, Microsoft has revealed.

This new version also brings options to make any person or group a favorite so that you can start conversations with your favorite contacts a bit faster. Autocorrect improvements are also part of this release, with the company explaining that you can now edit and delete messages.

Windows 10 Mobile version of Skype coming

At the moment, the universal app version of Skype is only available on PCs, but Microsoft says that a mobile version is just around the corner and should be released soon (as you probably know if you’re a Microsoft enthusiast, “soon” has become sort of a trademark for the company, so there are no clear release date specifics available at the moment).

“The mobile release of the Skype UWP Preview app will bring you features you’ve asked for - like group calling and more - while leveraging the benefits of the Skype integration into Windows 10 you previously experienced, like a single view of your SMS and Skype conversations. This way you get the best Skype experience possible and you can take it across your Windows devices,” the company explains.

Today’s update is only available for insiders, but it should go live for everyone once the Skype universal app launches for retail users as well.

There are no details as to when this is expected to happen, but most likely, the app will arrive with the Anniversary Update in the summer on both PCs and smartphones.
