Microsoft has just released an update to the Phone app on Windows 10 for PCs and mobile devices, rolling out an important set of improvements that are specifically aimed at those using it on a smartphone.

The new version of the Phone app is 2.15.25005.0 and actually comes with a change log, which is quite a rare thing these days at Microsoft, given the fact that the company no longer provides release notes unless there’s something really worth mentioning.

Fortunately, there is something that deserves to be mentioned this time around, and this is a set of performance improvements specifically aimed at low-end devices. Although it was believed that Microsoft abandoned low-end Windows handsets, as the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade was not released to models with just 512 MB of RAM, the company keeps updating apps with support specifically aimed at them.

Key fixes also included

This new version of the Phone app comes to improve loading speed on low-end devices while also including accessibility enhancements. It thus improves Narrator functionality by adding landmarks in the app with high contrast icons and better touch typing.

Furthermore, the updated Phone app also fixes several important issues, such as those causing some calls not to appear in the call history and the ringtone not to play after opening a visual voicemail message.

And last but not least, the update comes with standardized date and time formatting and improved app reliability and fixes specifically aimed to resolve crashes experienced by users in the previous versions.

The new Phone app is being shipped not only to insiders but also to retail users who are running the stable versions of Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile, and everyone should update as soon as possible, especially if a device running the latter is their everyday phone. The update should be there in the store if you’ve chosen to install new app versions manually.
