Microsoft planning new internal changes in the Windows group

Microsoft will roll out the new Windows 10 October 2018 Update, and this release marks an important milestone for the company for several reasons.

Not only that it represents another major feature update for Windows 10, but the October 2018 Update could also be the exiting update for Windows chief Terry Myerson.

Myerson announced earlier this year that he would be living the company, and according to Microsoft watcher Brad Sams, this could happen after the software giant ships the next big Windows 10 Update.

No layoff though

As a result, an internal reorganization of the Windows team is possible after the update gets the go-ahead, though by the looks of things, there are no planned layoffs for the time being.

“There might be a re-org inside the Windows world after Redstone 5 ships. This might be actually how Terry Myerson eventually exits is after that’s done, and then his role is diminished. Just people moving about, just more product lines, like Azure and Office and maybe kind of thinning out the Windows crowd. I don’t think there’s gonna be layoffs, not trying to say that, but they’re going to be just shuffling some people around,” Sams said citing insiders.

Windows 10 October 2018 Update is already in the final stages, and the RTM is projected to be signed off in the coming days. If everything goes according to the plan, insiders should receive the final build by the end of the month, while the public rollout should begin in early October.

Whether Microsoft plans to announce the reorganization or not still remains to be seen, but all these speculations certainly make sense, especially as the current Windows boss is leaving the team.

Expect more details on this to surface as we get closer to the launch date of the October 2018 Update.
