Windows 10 is now running on more than 1.3 billion devices, according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, as the adoption of the operating system increased even more in the latest quarters.

Windows 10 is one of Microsoft’s flagship products, and the global pandemic that forced people to work remotely certainly helped improve its adoption.

With some workers setting up ad-hoc working environments at home, Windows 10 PCs were obviously among the most popular choices. And CEO Satya Nadella admits that more people across the world choosing Windows 10 PCs to work is one of the reasons the adoption of its operating system has increased lately.

“People are turning to Windows PCs more than ever to stay connected, productive, and secure. Windows 10 now has more than 1.3 billion monthly active devices. And Microsoft 365 Consumer surpassed 50 million subscribers for the first time,” he said in a call with analysts after the earnings release.

New feature update coming

Nadella also praised Microsoft 365, whose adoption also increased substantially in the last 12 months or so for pretty much the same reasons.

“Microsoft 365 users generated more than 38 billion collaboration minutes in a single day this quarter. Office 365 now has nearly 300 million paid seats. And organizations across the private and public sector, like the City of Helsinki, Bausch Health, and Stryker, are increasingly choosing our premium offerings for advanced security, compliance, voice, and analytics,” he said.

In the meantime, Microsoft is getting ready to release a new Windows 10 feature update. Version 21H1 is projected to go live for production devices as soon as May, with users enrolled in the Windows Insider program to be the first to get it. The RTM build should make its way to testers in just a few weeks, while the production rollout to non-insider devices should kick off in approximately a month.
