Unfortunately for Windows Phone fans, it’s not true

The current state and the fate of Windows 10 Mobile have been overly-discussed, and while Microsoft itself appears to be OK with the demise of its smartphone platform, not the same thing can be said about the community.

Hardcore Windows phone fans have been asking for a major revamp of the platform for many years already, but due to reasons that we’re not going to dissect today, Microsoft refused to do it.

In a concept that’s making the rounds these days, designer Marko Malinović shows what Windows 10 Mobile could have looked like should Microsoft remained committed to the operating system and kept it in sync with the PC version of Windows 10.

One of the biggest makeovers happening right now in Windows 10 is the introduction of Fluent Design, a visual overhaul that includes several eye-candy effects, like acrylic. And while Microsoft is now working at full speed on getting Fluent Design ready for PCs, not the same thing can be said about phones.

Fluent Design all the way

Malinovic’s concept, instead, does that by envisioning how Fluent Design could look like in the majority of Windows 10 Mobile menus, while also imagining some of the features that were supposed to land on Windows phones, but which never made the cut. One such example is Force Touch, a feature that was tested on project McLaren, also discontinued before the public launch.

All in all, this Windows 10 Mobile concept shows that with a little bit more commitment to its own platform, Microsoft could have transformed its smartphone efforts into a real alternative to Android and iOS, at least as far as the visual interface goes.

Certainly, not the same thing can be said about usability, as the lack of apps would have still remained one of the biggest drawbacks to deal with despite the eye-candy looks. Fortunately for Microsoft, the company no longer has to worry about addressing this kind of problem anymore.
