Microsoft is trying to keep PCs and mobile phones in sync, so it just makes sense to see the majority of features available on all devices powered by Windows 10.

The latest Windows 10 Mobile build contains some evidence that another important feature is likely to arrive on smartphones with the release of the Anniversary Update: Windows Spotlight.

Reddit user Denaxin has spotted a little option in Windows 10 Mobile build 14322, which appears to indicate that Windows Spotlight could be added in a future update for the platform to bring lock screens to life and offer more customization options to users.

Windows Spotlight in Windows 10

Introduced with Windows 10, Windows Spotlight is a new feature that’s currently exclusive to PCs powered by this new OS that automatically changes the lock screen wallpaper and lets users rate every photo.

Based on votes, Windows Spotlight displays more similar photos to the ones you liked, thus making sure that your lock screen always looks fresh.

On mobile, Windows Spotlight will have pretty much the same purpose and will serve as an important upgrade for Bing, which already brings some similar functionality on Windows 10 Mobile. With Bing support, users can get a new wallpaper every day, but as compared to Windows Spotlight, they are not allowed to rate photos and vote for the ones they link.

What Bing does is to automatically set a new lock screen photo every day, which is exactly the same as the one used for the wallpaper of the web-based search engine.

Windows 10 Anniversary Update is projected to go live in July this year, but Windows Spotlight support should arrive in a preview build likely to be released in the coming weeks. Retail users, however, need to wait until the Anniversary Update hits the shelves to get it. In the meantime, everyone can give a try to Windows Spotlight on a Windows 10 PC.
