14 DAY TRIAL // The Alcatel IDOL 4S is without a doubt one of the best Windows phones ever launched and its hardware specs are living confirmation.
And yet, the device has never been a hit, also due to its limited availability, with T-Mobile US becoming the only reseller in the United States, in addition to Microsoft which recently launched the phone without a contract.
Unfortunately, T-Mobile has for some reason decided to give up on the Alcatel IDOL 4S, so the phone is no longer up for grabs from the only company that sold it beside Microsoft.
The reason for this decision is not yet known, but this leaves T-Mobile with no Windows phones in its offering, which for users committed to Microsoft’s mobile operating system shouldn’t come as a big surprise. Windows 10 Mobile has been collapsing for a couple of years already, so T-Mobile waving goodbye to the platform just aligns with the global trend.
European launch very soon
What’s more unexpected, however, is that T-Mobile is giving up on a phone that’s still new and which Alcatel wants to launch in Europe as well, with sales to begin sometime this year. And the worst thing is that this is one of the best Windows phones to date, coming with hardware that can rival Android flagships, including a Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB RAM.
Most likely, as Neowin writes, it’s all happening because of low demand, as Windows phones aren’t really the best-selling devices these days.
For what it’s worth, customers who still want to get an Alcatel IDOL 4S with Windows 10 Mobile can find one in the Microsoft Store, though here you need to pay the full price because the phone comes without a contract. As for the European launch, the device is expected to hit the shelves in the near future.
