New feature coming for Windows 10 Mobile users

It’s no surprise that Microsoft’s working to improve the mobile experience with the upcoming Windows 10 Redstone update (despite the company’s reduced focus on mobile this year), and it appears that one way to do that is by bringing a new feature right on the lock screen.

Microsoft is currently working to add a camera button on the lock screen, WinBeta reveals, which would allow users to simply launch the camera by tapping it and without the need for going to Start.

This feature seems to be similar to those on Android and iOS, as both platforms come with a camera icon on the lock screen and allow users to launch the camera and quickly shoot a photo without forcing them to unlock the phone.

Furthermore, on both iOS and Android, if the phone is locked with a password or fingerprint, users can access the camera and take a quick shot, so that they won’t be missing the right moment to capture an important moment. Although this feature provides access to camera features, it doesn’t compromise the phone’s security because it doesn’t allow users to browse the gallery or access any other app on the device.

Already in internal builds

On Windows 10 Mobile, this option will undoubtedly come in handy to those who do not have a physical camera button because otherwise, it’s clearly easier to launch this camera by pressing the button and not by going to the lock screen.

The source writes that keeping the finger on the camera icon for approximately one second is enough to launch the camera, so Microsoft is clearly looking to make the whole experience as fast as possible.

At the moment, the company is internally testing this feature and is expected to include it in a future build for insiders. A new build is likely to debut the next week, Gabe Aul, head of the Insider program revealed, as the company held back this week’s release because of a cellular data bug discovered at the very last minute.
