Microsoft working on more UI refinements in Redstone builds

As we’ve told you earlier today, Microsoft’s working on more significant improvements in Redstone builds, including new animations for live tiles.

And it appears that Windows 10 Mobile Redstone build 14278 is one of the first to come with such visual improvements, with live tiles getting new effects, as teased by Twitter user @tfwboredom.

As you can see in the video at the end of the article, the Cortana live tile does come with such a fade-out animation, but more applications could get it either in this build or a future one.

Redstone is the codename of the next Windows 10 build for both PCs and smartphones and is expected to bring significant improvements on all devices. Work on this update has already started, and Microsoft rolled out preview builds for insiders enrolled in the fast ring.

Redstone builds limited to new Lumia phones

But for the moment, Redstone builds are all about fixing bugs and improving performance, and rumor has it that the next release, likely to happen this or next week, could bring more changes in terms of features and visual effects. At this point, it’s not yet clear if build 14278 is the next one to be released, but either way, expect the next version to come with the same visual effects as well.

Until now, Redstone builds for Windows 10 Mobile have been restricted to new Lumia handsets that shipped with Windows 10 in the first place, with Microsoft promising to expand them to Windows Phone devices once the upgrade to the final version of the operating system is released too.

It’s also uncertain whether build 14278 can be released to Windows Phone devices too, but given the fact that Windows 10 Mobile is not yet available for these models, it’s highly unlikely to see Redstone preview builds rolling out to them too.
