Redmond is still aiming high with its mobile platform

They say Windows Phone is dead and Microsoft has no chance in mobile, but the bigger the criticism, the more the company is trying to succeed in this side of the market.

In a new job post published on the Microsoft Careers webpage (and spotted by WMPU), Redmond reveals that it is aiming to sell “millions of Windows 10 Mobile devices” to enterprises as part of its plan to conquer the business environment and bring Windows 10 on as many PCs, tablets, and smartphones as possible in this market.

“Productivity & enterprise-grade Security are key differentiators of Windows Mobile OS. Are you passionate about leveraging these strengths and working with ecosystem Partners to build and ship millions of Windows Mobile OS devices with differentiating experiences to enterprises?” the job ad reads.

Enterprise is now the key focus

While there’s no doubt that Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile can easily be the right choice for consumers too, Microsoft seems to be betting more on the enterprise with its new desktop and mobile operating system, with features specifically developed to help it appeal to this market.

But at the same time, Windows is seeing stronger competition from Android and iOS in enterprise, with third-party research firms claiming that these two platforms are evenly (or not, depending on whom you ask) sharing the market in this side of the business.

Windows Phone is said to have approximately 1 percent in the enterprise, and although that might seem disappointing, it actually isn't, mostly because Microsoft is no longer referring to its mobile OS as to a stand-alone product. Microsoft now groups everything Windows into a single item, so the company measures the success of its software based on the cumulative adoption of both desktops and smartphones in each market.

With Windows 10 Mobile just around the corner, it remains to be seen how successful it will be in the enterprise, but watching consumer adoption will be an interesting thing to do in the next 12 months too.
