Statistics provided by AdDuplex show that Windows 10 Mobile is running on 14 percent of the Windows phones out there, an increase that confirms that Microsoft’s new mobile operating system is slowly gaining ground despite the criticism.

With Windows 10 Mobile now on 14 percent of the devices, Windows Phone 8.1 has dropped to 77.3 percent, but this share is still big enough to maintain it in the first place. Windows Phone 8.0 is now at 6.7 percent while Windows Phone 7.x is currently powering 1.9 percent of the phones.

On the other hand, the recently launched Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update is already running on more than 50 percent of the devices that are eligible to receive it, which is just the living proof that Microsoft needs to pay more attention to such OS updates in the future because users are really eager to get them running on their devices as soon as possible.

Top Windows phones

As far as the top Windows phones around the world are concerned, right now, Lumia 535 remains the number one choice for users in the community with a share of 12.3 percent globally, followed by Lumia 520 with 10.4 percent. Lumia 640 is third with 9.8 percent.

In terms of Windows 10 Mobile phone adoption, Lumia 550 and Lumia 640 are leading the chart with 12.9 and 12.7 percent, respectively. Lumia 950 and 950 XL are far behind with 6.8 and 3.7 percent, respectively.

Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update is powering 52.4 percent of the phones in the ecosystem while Windows 10 Mobile 1511 has a share of 41.3 percent. 6.3 percent of devices are already running RS2 builds - RS2 stands for Redstone 2, the second wave of the Redstone update coming in spring 2017 and that is already up for testing for insiders.

All in all, adoption of Windows 10 Mobile is improving, but still not at the pace that users were expecting before its release. Partly responsible for this below-expectations performance is the limited availability of the Windows 10 Mobile update, as it can be installed on approximately 50 percent of the Windows Phone devices on the market.
