14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is working on a new backup format for Windows 10 Mobile devices that would lead to reduced size in OneDrive.
The first build that brings it is the recently released 14371, and Microsoft points out that there are some known issues that everyone should be aware of when installing this because it could affect the way you back up and restore Windows phones.
“If you do a backup on a device running the latest Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview builds and move back to the released version of Windows 10 Mobile (Build 10586) and restore from your backup - your Start screen layout won’t restore and remain the default Start layout,” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, has said in an announcement today.
“Your previous backup also gets overwritten. If you need to go back to Build 10586 temporarily, once you are on Build 10586 you should disable backup so it doesn’t overwrite the good backup from Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview builds.”
To be refined in next builds
All these known bugs should be addressed in the next build, especially because Windows 10 Mobile is all about performance improvements at the moment, as Microsoft is putting the final touches on the Anniversary Update before the big July launch.
As for the new backup format, this comes in handy to users, especially because, this way, they can easily back up and restore their devices faster thanks to the reduced size. Backing up devices is a thing most of the smartphone users do these days, so it’s important for Windows 10 Mobile to have an effective and reliable solution in this regard that would work just as expected.
In addition to the aforementioned known issues, it’s also worth mentioning that the most recent build also includes some Wi-Fi disconnect problems as well as decreases in battery life on a number of Windows Phone devices upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile, including Lumia 830, 930, and 1520.
