New cumulative update coming for 10586 devices

Screenshots of what seems to be a new cumulative update currently being tested internally by Microsoft have reached the web, suggesting that a new release could take place as soon as next week.

These photos do not reveal any new feature, but they’re supposed to show that Microsoft is already testing a new cumulative update behind closed doors for 10586 devices. In most of the cases, these updates are only expected to bring improvements and bug fixes, and this is very likely to happen with the 10586.338 release too.

Details aren’t available, but since it’s part of the 10586 branch, it’ll be aimed at devices that haven’t yet been updated to Redstone preview builds. Most likely, Microsoft will release it to insider devices, but also to retail users once it determines that it’s ready for a public launch, and no major bugs are found.

New Anniversary Update preview build also coming

At the same time, Microsoft is also hard at work to get ready another Windows 10 Mobile Redstone preview build, and the chances are that its debut could take place next week for insiders enrolled in the fast ring. This time, however, the company is more likely to include new features and options in order to get feedback and find new ways to improve them before the public launch.

The Anniversary Update is due in the summer, and Microsoft will introduce a long list of features, many of which will be aimed at both PCs and smartphones.

One such feature is support for extensions for Microsoft Edge browser, and there’s evidence that the company is preparing the release of this feature on mobile devices too. Redmond said at last year’s Build developer conference that it first wanted extensions to debut on PCs before bringing them on mobile phones, so it looks like work in this direction is advancing well.

Additionally, Windows 10 Mobile will also get significantly improved performance, new options to better control updates, Edge swipe gesture navigation support, app updates, an overhauled action center, and slightly revised look with new icons and other small touches.
