Windows 10 Mobile will get another feature with the upcoming Anniversary Update that would position it as a better rival to Android and iOS, as it’s receive functionality already available on these platforms.

The latest build rolled out by Microsoft only a few hours ago comes with new app permissions that hint at a new feature developed by the company for Windows 10 Mobile devices. Apps will finally be allowed to access phone notifications, a feature that’s already offered to Android and iOS users.

MSPU has spotted this change in the app permissions screens where users can enable apps they install to access notifications and thus offer a series of new features that weren’t previously available on Windows 10 Mobile. Microsoft is yet to publicly announce this change, but if work in this regard continues, there are big chances to see it go live for all users with the Anniversary Update.

“Choose apps that can access my notifications. Some apps need access to your notifications to work as intended. Turning off an app here might limit what it can do,” the new entry in the Settings app reads.

Without a doubt, such a feature opens the door to a whole new category of apps, and users can only be pleased that Microsoft is improving the operating system in this regard. Windows 10 will also be able to display phone notifications right on the PC, no matter if you use a Windows 10 Mobile or an Android device.

All these features will be part of the Anniversary Update, which, according to the most recent evidence, should land sometime in July. People with knowledge of the matter hinted that the final build could be labeled as Windows 10 build 1607, and this is a direct hint at the release date, as the first two numbers represent the year of launch while the other two show the month. The Anniversary Update is thus believed to debut in July 2016.
