14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just started the rollout of Windows 10 Anniversary Update, and although many users expected PCs and mobile devices to receive it at the same time, it turns out that the Redmond-based software giant has different plans.
Only PCs are getting the Anniversary Update today, and Microsoft says that mobile devices will receive the new bits in the coming weeks, without providing a clear release date.
In an announcement today, the company has made it clear that only PCs will be seeing the Anniversary Update on Windows Update, so if you were checking for updates on a mobile phone, you'd better stop because nothing new is going to show up today.
“Starting today the Windows 10 Anniversary Update will begin rolling out for our customers around the world. The Windows 10 Anniversary Update is full of new features and innovations that bring Windows Ink and Cortana to life; a faster, more accessible and more power-efficient Microsoft Edge browser; advanced security features; new gaming experiences and more. The Windows 10 Anniversary Update will start rolling out to Windows 10 Mobile phones in the coming weeks,” Redmond says.
Why it makes sense
Although this decision might be frustrating for Windows 10 Mobile users, who can once again feel left behind by Microsoft itself, there’s pretty much no other way to go because the latest builds of the operating system released to insiders simply didn’t seem to be ready for prime time.
Bugs are still there, and the overall performance of the operating system needs more refinements and improvements, and this is probably the main reason the company decided to hold the release back and continue working on the Anniversary Update for mobile devices.
Most likely, some new builds will be released to users in the coming days and weeks before the final build is compiled, but without a clear timeline, expect more criticism to emerge in the meantime. Without a doubt, all these delays are disappointing even for the most loyal fans, so it just seems like Microsoft itself hates Windows phones.
