Microsoft has recently released a new update for the default Windows 10 Mail app, bringing support for styluses in the new mail window.

In other words, Windows 10 users can now write new emails with a pen thanks to the introduction of a new drawing section that’s included in the email composing screen.

The Mail app, now at version 11605.10228.20091.0, brings this improvement only to Windows insiders for the time being, but in the coming weeks, it should become available for everyone else as well.

Paving the way for Andromeda

Considering the existing rumors pointing to a new mobile device prepared by Microsoft, the debut of the new Mail app feature seems to happen just at the right time.

Codenamed Andromeda, this new Microsoft device will be heavily focused on pen support. Described by many as a modern version of the original Courier concept, Andromeda will enable several form factors with a dual-screen design. A notebook-like approach will also be offered, thus making writing capabilities an essential part of the entire experience.

Andromeda will run Windows 10, and by rolling out these improvements early, Microsoft tries to make sure that its apps are fully prepared for its new mobile device. There are no specifics as to when the launch could take place, but it’s believed that Microsoft is aiming for a fall 2018 unveiling, possibly ahead of the back to school season.

Andromeda will also be targeted as schools and students in an attempt to replace the traditional notebook and offer more productivity on the go, so this release schedule does seem to make sense. Obviously, everything’s still in the rumor stage for now, but given all these hints that Microsoft drops every once in a while, there’s a good chance Andromeda is just around the corner.
