New concept imagines the look of the Mail app

Windows 10 is expected to get a substantial UI overhaul in the coming Redstone 3 update, and this includes the so-called Project NEON that would bring blur and transparency effects in universal apps.

Just as expected, Microsoft plans to pioneer the adoption of Project NEON, so apps like Mail, Groove Music, Maps, and others are likely to get this new facelift in the preview builds of Redstone 3 shipping to insiders this summer.

In the meantime, the only things we get are concepts created by designers across the world who try to envision the way Project NEON would look like in Redstone 3 with the help of blur and transparency effects that more or less make sense in the existing Windows 10 apps.

Living proof is this concept created by Michael West and which is a follow-up to the one that envisions the People app and which we discussed yesterday. This time, however, the concept imagines the Mail app with Project NEON visual style, getting a look which not only that makes sense but also makes the operating system itself look clean and modern.

Redstone 3 launching this fall

Although the concept looks like something that Microsoft should include in Windows 10 at some point in the future, there still are certain parts that need to be improved, such as the left pane, which makes it a bit difficult to see the selected message given the choice of colors.

Of course, this is a small refinement that Microsoft can do if it decides to go for this design, and truth be told, the company would really do itself a favor should it decide to make the Mail app look like this in Windows 10 Redstone 3.

In the meantime, this is nothing more than a concept, and more information on how Project NEON would evolve in Windows 10 would be provided later this year when Microsoft starts shipping preview builds of Redstone 3 to insiders.
