The May 2018 Patch Tuesday rollout obviously includes a cumulative update for systems running Windows 10 Creators Update as well, as this is the oldest version of the OS that is still supported as part of the standard branches.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4103731 bumps the OS build number to 15063.1088 – this should help you check whether it installed correctly or not (press Win key + R, type winver and look for the version number).

The change log of this cumulative update isn’t huge, and probably the most important improvements concern the vulnerabilities that are getting fixed as part of the Patch Tuesday cycle. Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, the scripting engine, and the Windows app platform and frameworks are all getting security fixes with this cumulative update.

Non-security fixes

When it comes to other bugs that are being addressed with this update, the change log is very similar to the one of the other cumulative updates published today.

For example, there are fixes for Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge, as well as improvements to help users select a Microsoft add-in on a second monitor. There’s also a resolution for an issue that prevented Windows 10 devices from connecting to a Remote Desktop server.

Other than that, it’s worth noting that there are no known issues in this cumulative update. This means that KB4103731 should install correctly on all devices still running Windows 10 Creators Update, though as we know, this remains to be seen as installing cumulative updates in the previous months has been quite a gamble on many systems.

We’re not aware of any failed installs just yet and KB4103731 deployed correctly on our testing machine running the Creators Update. The more users get this cumulative update, however, the bigger the chances to discover issues, so it remains to be seen how smoothly the experience with KB4103731 actually is.
