Logitech provides fix for webcam issue on Creators Update

Many users rushed to download and install Windows 10 Creators Update this week, either via Windows Update or with the dedicated official ISOs released by Microsoft, but it looks like those with a Logitech webcam are experiencing a bug breaking down the hardware.

Logitech has confirmed that after installing the Windows 10 Creators Update, users might not be able to get video content or the BRIO webcam might no longer be detected by the operating system, which means that, without a fix, there’s no way to use it.

Fortunately, Logitech says a workaround already exists and explains that the bug exists in the way Windows 10 Creators Update loads the webcam drivers, with the device listed as Unknown in the Device Manager screen.

How to fix the bug

To correct the issue, users need to launch Device Manager, open the BRIO/Unknown section that has a yellow exclamation icon, and then hit the Update Software option. Choose the option that reads Let me pick from a list, check Show compatible hardware > USB Video Device and click Next to complete the install.

This means your webcam will use the generic Windows 10 drivers and not the dedicated software developed by Logitech, and although this isn’t exactly the most convenient workaround, it’s the only way to continue using the webcam until updated drivers are released.

On the other hand, it looks like the Creators Update is installing smoothly on the majority of computers and bugs like these only occur because vendors haven’t yet updated their drivers for Microsoft’s new OS release. This is one of the reasons Microsoft is rolling out the Creators Update via Windows Update in stages, as it first wants to make sure that users getting it can enjoy the full experience after the install.

The Creators Update will go live on April 11, and hopefully the majority of bugs showing up due to app compatibility problems would be fixed at least for the most used hardware.
