Build 14986 testing advances nicely, more bugs fixed

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 build 14986 for Fast ring insiders last week with plenty of improvements, and it appears that bug hunting advanced quite nicely and the company is now releasing the same version to those in the Slow ring.

The latest build is now available for download for both the Fast and the Slow rings, and users can get it via Windows Update just like any other new build.

In case you’re wondering if this is worth downloading or not, there’s no doubt it is. Windows 10 build 14986 is one of the biggest releases so far since Microsoft started work on the Creators Update, and it brings new features and options that were super-requested by users.

For example, starting with this build, Cortana can turn off your computer, change volume with commands, or even play a specific song, genre, or radio station in apps like TuneIn Radio or iHeartRadio.

Users in China also get music recognition option with Cortana and all they need to do is “tap the music notes icon in the top corner of Cortana’s home page, and Cortana will listen to whatever music is playing and use Netease to tell you what song it is.”

New Edge extensions

Windows Game Bar also comes with improved full-screen support, while Windows Ink gets its share of improvements with options to resume previous screen sketches.

There are also plenty of new improvements for Narrator, as well as three fresh extensions in Microsoft Edge, namely EbatesIntel TrueKey, and Read & Write.

Windows Defender is also getting a facelift with this build, as it brings a preview version of the new dashboard that Microsoft wants to release with the Creators Update.

“We are making it easier for you to view and control Windows 10 device security and health features available on your PC or tablet with the availability of a new dashboard coming in the Windows 10 Creators Update. Windows Insiders will get a preview of the new experience beginning today,” Microsoft said.

As usual, even though this build has been promoted to the Slow ring, keep in mind that bugs might still exist, so experienced users are mainly those who should install it.
